Capturing Man's Best Friend With a Camera

I have so much to share. When I come up for air, I will share all the fun and incredible work on my plate right now.

Shutterfly's Storytelling with Photo Books section feature - How to Take Pictures of Dogs with my tips for taking pictures of man's best friend.

"Think Out of the Box. What makes your pet special? Besides everything! Does it have a unique hairline? Does it have a cute pink nose? Take detail shots of what makes your pet stand out from the rest."

Snatam Kaur - Earth's Prayer

My first music video I've ever directed/photographed was released a few days ago! It's of my favorite artist, Snatam Kaur, who performs Indian devotional music. I reached out to her a couple of years ago when my Mom was receiving chemo and radiation treatments. Her music got me through this incredibly difficult time and has changed my life. I hope you can take a moment and receive her amazing gift.

My life has gone to the dogs

I have said it before, I have the best job and feel like the luckiest person in the world. That being said, my life has gone to the dogs, in a good way!

The Nate Berkus Show is featuring a segment on Oprah's house and something I photographed for her is one of her favorite things! Her beautiful dogs.

Oprah mentions it here on her 30-day countdown video and here on Huffington Post Media page.

Nikon

I represented Nikon Inc of the United States as a judge in Tokyo back in February at the The Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011.

From Nikon's site:
"We recently announced the judges who’ll be selecting all the prizes in each category plus one grand prize. They consist of several seasoned Nikon photography experts plus some of the world’s best known photographers, including Vincent Munier and Robin Layton."

We took the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto weeks before the earthquake. I took some dreamy photos on that train ride! Go see more images of Japan.

I have to pinch myself sometimes to realize how lucky I have been in my career. Especially when I am shooting the radiant Oprah Winfrey while she was filming "Master Class" for OWN preview.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show"

I had the privilege of working with Oprah again. Shooting an interview with Katherine Jackson, mother of the late king of pop Michael Jackson, in which Jackson reflects on the life of her son from his childhood superstardom to recounting the day he passed away. The interview will air on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" sometime in November.

Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011

Nikon Photo Contest International has a history of almost 40 years and attracts entries (there is still time to enter) from all over the world. In response to the cross-cultural nature of the competition, professionals working internationally in various photographic fields have been appointed as judges. Such judges have also been chosen for their familiarity with digital photography and their keen awareness of changing photographic trends.

I have been invited to be a judge the Nikon Photo Contest, invitation by Nikon, Inc.

LA Times Article on Robin Layton WORKS photography/art exhibit in Los Angeles

Robin Layton's first solo show in L.A.

At an art show in West Hollywood on Thursday evening, "Desperate Housewives" star Felicity Huffman embraced the star of the hour, Robin Layton; looked around the gallery; and went shopping.

Layton, a Los Angeles photojournalist once declared one of the world's eight most talented photographers by Life magazine, combines gauzy art photography with rustic found objects she picks up at farms and flea markets around the country. And this is her first solo show here since moving to town seven years ago.

"I decided to follow my dream of marrying found objects with my fine art photography because I've been a hired gun for years," Layton said. "I thought, when is it going to be my turn?"

Along the way, Layton has photographed and befriended Hollywood celebs, who have gone on to collect her work, including such A-list arbiters of taste as Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Jessica Parker. Cruising the gallery at 8816 Melrose Ave. were Frances Fisher, Kathy Najimy, "True Blood's" Patricia Bethune and Thom Bierdz of "The Young and the Restless."

Having met through a mutual friend, Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Huffman commissioned Layton to photograph her preparing for the Academy Awards a couple of years ago, "from getting ready to getting into the car," said Huffman, who compiled the pictures into a journal. "It's one of my most treasured books."

"I've been watching her and she came and photographed my children and my husband, [William H. Macy]," she continued. "She's a find. It's how she shoots -- it's the truth of the moment and yet it speaks volumes, and I think that's what real artists do.

"Their medium is the moment and they're catching the moment and how it extrapolates through to the human soul."
